Enterprises to develop university education

Computer-Assisted Instruction

In 1994 I made an initiative for developing a new discipline at Joensuu university. Soon after that faculty of education and the faculty of mathematical sciences were offering together CAI discipline to all students at Joensuu university. I was working as a responsible person for designing and teaching educationally oriented courses on the levels of approbatur and cum laude approbatur.

Science Education

From the year 1995, the faculty of education was offered a new discipline, Science with the assistance of the faculty of mathematical sciences. The course was specially designed for the needs of primary and secondary school teachers and teacher students. The main design of the discipline was done by professor Leena Aho, lecturers Leena Pulkkinen and Kari Sormunen, and me. My responsibility was in the course: Science, Technology, and Society (STS).

Open and distance education

From the year 1995, I served as a director of the project that has as its aim to develop a new curriculum for open and distance learning in subject teacher education (teacher's pedagogical studies). The project was implemented collaboratively by TOTY, the Department of Subject Teacher and School Counsellor Education, and the University Practice School. Along with the project, some new pedagogical models for collaborative learning were developed and demonstrated.

Educational Technology

From the year 2003 to 2006 Savonlinna Department of Teacher Education offered master studies in educational technology together with Savonlinna In-service Education Center and Savonlinna Practice School. The program was designed both for the teacher students and as an in-service teacher education program. I was working as a head and one of the main instructors for those studies. The program was funded by the European Social Foundation (ESR) and the city of Savonlinna.
